Junior League volunteers are out and about with Open Streets, an initiative of the Oklahoma City- County Health Department. Open Streets events are car-free, pedestrian- and cyclist-friendly outdoor events designed to encourage non-motorized transportation and general wellness. For the two annual events, one in the Fall and one in the Spring, JLOC volunteers plan, organize, and execute a fun activity for the public, as well as manage a booth at each event representing the Junior League and promoting our health focus.
Under the guidance of the JLOC Project Manager, volunteers in his project choose the nature of the activity presented, the age group(s) to which it is catered, and even whether to offer food as part of or in addition to the activity! Successful booths at past events have included smoothie-making bicycles, hula hoop competitions, obstacle courses for children, and even line dancing, so this is a placement where creativity and activity shine!
