The Variety Pack project allows qualified JLOC volunteers to participate in activities of a variety of OKC-area not-for-profit organizations. The projects are typically special events that require extra volunteers. Current partners include Dreamnight at the Oklahoma City Zoo, UCO Endeavor Games, Citizens Caring for Children's Santa Stop, Infant Crisis Services, Positive Tomorrows, JLOC's Kids in the Kitchen, Regional Oklahoma Food Bank, and Teacher's Warehouse. New projects for 2010-2011 include Preserving History at the OKC National Memorial, Healthy Kids Healthy Lifestyles at Camp Fire USA Heart of Oklahoma Council, Photographer for a Day at Rebuilding Together OKC. This placement is reserved for JLOC volunteers with more than 3 years of active service.
The Variety Pack Project is for members who have been active members for three or more years. Volunteers work for various metro agencies to complete special projects.
Agencies and projects include:
- Dream Night at the Zoo – Dream Night is a free event for families with special needs children. Volunteers assist a photographer with family portraits and passes out treats to children.
- Endeavor Games- The Games are a nationally recognized multi-sport competition for athletes with physical disabilities of all ages and ability. Volunteers assist with venue set-up, registration and competition assistance for the Games.
- Car Seat Checks- Volunteers assist in checking in clients for a free car seat safety check through the Oklahoma Safe Kids Coalition.
- Infant Crisis Services
- Kids in the Kitchen - Volunteers shop for food ingredients, assist with food preparation and assist in the preparation of a healthy food choices program for at risk children. This is a project supported by the Association of Junior Leagues International.
- Positive Tomorrows- Volunteers sponsor an Arts Festival outing for children attending Positive Tomorrows.
- Regional Oklahoma Food Bank- Volunteers sort, package and label boxes of food needed within the community.
- Infant Crisis Services - Volunteers sort and distribute supplies for parents of infants and young children in emergency crisis situations.
- Teachers Warehouse – Volunteers stock school supplies, fill teachers’ orders, and pull orders’ for teachers within the Oklahoma City school district.
- Santa Stop- Volunteers purchase, organize, wrap and distribute gifts for foster children with Citizens Caring for Children.
- Preserving History - Volunteers will help preserve history at the OKC National Memorial.
- Healthy Kids Healthy Lifestyles - Camp Fire USA, Heart of Oklahoma Council
- Photographer for a Day - at Rebuilding Together in OKC.
